How to Prepare an AeroPress

The Aeropress is a great invention because it lets you have your coffee moment anywhere in the world, whether in nature, camping, or at the best specialty coffee shop.

Here I'll show you two simple methods for making an AeroPress at home . We use a coffee:water ratio of 1:15, which is 17 grams and 255 ml of water.

To make an AeroPress we need:

• AeroPress
• Round filters
• A jug or cup
• Filtered water
• Freshly ground coffee (medium coarse)

Traditional Method of Making an AeroPress

1. We insert the paper filter into the filter lid.
2. We place the filter cap on the AeroPress tube and run hot water through the filter to clean the flavors from the paper.
3. We place the tube with the lid upside down on a jug or cup.
4. We place it on a scale and tare it.
5. We pour the 17 grams of freshly ground coffee (medium-coarse grind) into the AeroPress tube.
6. We heat the water to 85ºC.
7. We start the timer and pour in 255 ml of water.
8. We stir with a spoon a couple of times (optional) and add the plunger to stop the coffee from falling.
9. We let it infuse for 2 minutes.
10. We press down slowly, for 30 seconds until it starts to whisper.
11. We stir a little and serve.

Reverse Aeropress Method

1. We place the paper filter in the AeroPress lid and rinse it with hot water to clean it. We set it aside.
2. We place the plunger seal inside the top of the AeroPress tube, without pressing (the seal should be 1 cm below the edge of the tube)
3. We invert the AeroPress with the plunger at the bottom and the tube at the top.
4. We place it on a scale and tare it to add 17 grams of freshly ground coffee.
5. We tare again, start the timer and add the 255 ml of water (85ºC).
6. We mix a couple of times with a spoon (optional).
7. We screw on the lid.
8. After 2 minutes of infusion, carefully turn it over and place it on top of a large pitcher or cup.
9. We press for 30 seconds. Shake a little and serve.
